What working at
DISRUPTIVE looks like.
Sara Khalafi, Head of Investor Relations
Why did you want to join Disruptive?
Before Disruptive, I was working at a conservative family office and craving a more active professional environment. I happened to know someone working at Disruptive who introduced me to the firm, and I immediately resonated with the sophisticated business model and opportunities for growth.
How has your role evolved since you joined?
I started as an Associate, and a bit over a year later I was promoted to Head of Investor Relations. There is a lot of opportunity for upward mobility here, which was part of what originally appealed to me about working at Disruptive. My current role is managerial and focused on the operational side of the business, as well as overseeing some aspects of business development.
What is it like to work at Disruptive?
The investment opportunities are truly top tier, and the people are great to work with. Everyone brings an interesting perspective and good work ethic, and the relatively flat organization allows people to interact and exchange ideas. This gives us the benefits of an entrepreneurial culture within an established organization.

Why did you want to join Disruptive?
I’ve always wanted to work in the private investment space and was particularly fascinated by technology investing. This made Disruptive a natural fit. When I joined, I started as a three-month summer intern working on the Investor Relations team, and I was hooked from the start. The magnitude of the deals and quality of the LP base was incredibly impressive, and I also really enjoyed being around the people I get to work with every day.
How has your role evolved since you joined?
I was supposed to go back to school after my internship was up. But because this was during the middle of COVID, my university decided to have a fully remote semester. I realized then that I wanted to continue at Disruptive for at least another term, and the CEO encouraged me to stay on permanently. I’ve been here ever since and thrilled with the decision. My current role has evolved into a hybrid of Research and Investor Relations. I mostly spend time deal sourcing, underwriting, and occasionally capital raising.
What is it like to work at Disruptive?
We have a lean team, which means that everyone has their hand on the pulse. Because of our deal-by-deal SVP model, we get to have a lot of wonderful discussions with LPs about why we’re investing in a specific company. That, combined with the deals we underwrite and the people, makes it an exciting workplace.

Why did you want to join Disruptive?
Before Disruptive, I was on the investment team at a family office with a conservative investment mandate. I had exposure to a wide range of investment styles, and discovered that I was most passionate about venture and technology investing. Disruptive at the time was fairly under the radar, but I was referred by someone internally and immediately resonated with the sophisticated business model and opportunities for growth and innovation.
How has your role evolved since you joined?
I started as an Associate and made my way up to the Head of Investor Relations. There is a lot of opportunity for upward mobility here, both in terms of personal and firm growth.
What is it like to work at Disruptive?
The investment opportunities are truly top tier. Everyone brings an impactful perspective and superb work ethic, and being able to access many great minds is an immense value-add. This gives us the benefit of an entrepreneurial culture within an established organization, which makes the firm disruptive (no pun intended) with investment decisions and new business lines.
